5 Home Design Trends That Will Be Big in 2016

Posted by: Regent Homes, on October 22, 2015

As with everything, trends come and trends go. Some of these trends may be ones that you would rather not see ever again, while others go out of style well before your interest dissipates. The trends in custom home building and design are no different. One day brass fixtures are in, and the next day, they are not. With 2016 right around the corner, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite custom home design trends that you will likely see in the year or years to follow.

What are the major home design trends for 2016?home design trends

White on White Kitchen Spaces

Look for a fresh, clean approach to the kitchen spaces in 2016. White cabinets with white (or light-colored) back splashes and countertops are making their way back into the kitchen – this time, all at once! The desire to have a clean, bright, open area is the reason this trend is so popular. The kitchen is usually the center of the home where much of the entertaining goes on. The white palette helps to open up and brighten the space; therefore, making it appear larger.

Double Island Kitchens

Continuing on with the trends in the kitchen, we move onto another entertainment-friendly trend – double islands in the kitchen. This means that there is not only one island but another island for more seating space and even a second small sink. This trend is increasingly popular due to the fact that more people are entertaining at their homes, and it provides more space for gathering and sitting.

Indoor-Outdoor Living

Whether you live in the suburbs or in the country, you will love this trend! This home design trend creates a space that allows indoor and outdoor space to flow together perfectly. Think of dining areas that open to a patio space or possibly a fireplace used in the living room/outside on the patio. As with the other trends we have discussed, this one also gives way to the open space concept that home owners are longing for in 2016.

Reclaimed Lumber

This flooring trend made its debut a few years back, but more and more people are jumping on board with it now. This trend is more of an eco-friendly option that will add character and personality to the flooring.

Brass Fixtures

It seems like only a few years back, brass fixtures were the thing of past! Now, it is predicted that brass will become one of the major finishes for lighting fixtures and hardware. We are not talking about the polished brass, however! This brass finish will appear more worn (think 1880’s). This trend is gaining a lot of popularity because of the uniqueness that it presents when paired with a contemporary styled fixture. When used in this fashion, the pieces have more of an eclectic-feel about them.

If you are looking to add any or all of these trends into your new home, you are in luck! As a home builder and a remodeling specialist, we can add any of these finishes into your new or existing home. When it comes to the details, that is what makes a house a home and gives it character.
